The Counterform is an original Bauhaus-inspired composition exploring one of graphic design's most fundamental relationships: the continual exchange between positive and negative space.

A precisely constructed field of semicircles and curved geometric modules repeats across a deep black ground. Warm ivory forms rotate, mirror, intersect, and align, creating a tightly organized system in which the spaces between individual elements begin to form shapes of their own.

Look at the ivory and one pattern emerges.

Look at the black and another appears.

That visual exchange gives The Counterform its distinctive character. Neither the positive nor negative geometry completely dominates the composition; instead, the eye continually shifts between them, transforming background into foreground and empty space into active form.

The stark black-and-ivory palette removes the distraction of color and places the emphasis entirely on geometry, proportion, repetition, and contrast. Bold modernist typography beneath the composition reinforces its graphic character and gives the artwork the presence of an experimental European exhibition poster.
